Abstract
The article focuses on the British Double Reed Society (BDRS), a dynamic organization founded in 1988 to promote oboes and bassoons across the UK. The society serves as a national forum for players, teachers, and enthusiasts, offering resources such as a magazine, social media presence, educational initiatives, and an instrument loan bank. Recent efforts include expanding access to double reed instruments through regional programs like the North East Double Reed Initiative and partnerships with organizations such as the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra's In Harmony Liverpool. Led by chair James Turnbull, the BDRS emphasizes supporting young musicians and fostering collaboration among teachers to sustain and grow the double reed community.
