Abstract
The article discusses recent research on the therapeutic potential of psychedelic drugs, such as LSD and psilocin, which have gained renewed interest in psychiatry due to evidence of their effectiveness in treating various mental illnesses, including major depression and anxiety disorders. Historically marginalized due to their association with counterculture and legal restrictions, these substances are now being studied for their neuropsychopharmacological properties, particularly their interaction with 5-HT receptors. The research highlights the emergence of a new class of 5-HT receptor agonists that may offer therapeutic benefits without the hallucinatory effects typically associated with psychedelics. The findings suggest a promising avenue for novel drug treatments in psychiatry. [Extracted from the article]
