Abstract

An interview with Barbara Hawkins, founding member of the 1960s American pop music girl group The Dixie Cups, is presented. Hawkins recalls the making of the group's outfits for the St. Aug talent show as the Meltones in 1963 which led to their signing with Red Bird Records. She talks about how they came up with the vocal arrangement of the song "Chapel of Love," the success of the songs "Iko Iko" and "Two-Way-Poc-A-Way," and her modeling job with Rosa Hawkins in the 1970s.
