Abstract

The article focuses on French pianist Bertrand Chamayou’s latest recording project, which creates a musical dialogue between the works of Erik Satie and John Cage. Chamayou, known for his interpretations of Liszt, Ravel, and Saint-Saëns, explores lesser-known and conceptual aspects of Satie’s music alongside Cage’s compositions, highlighting their shared emphasis on rhythm, duration, and experimental approaches. The album, titled *Letter(s) to Erik Satie*, reflects Chamayou’s interest in reframing familiar pieces to reveal new perspectives, supported by his deep engagement with the composers’ personalities, historical contexts, and musical instructions. This project also serves as a precursor to a forthcoming album focused entirely on Cage’s prepared piano works, demonstrating Chamayou’s ongoing commitment to 20th-century and contemporary repertoire.
