Abstract
The Essence Festival of Culture, the largest festival in the nation, has showcased a diverse range of male performers throughout its history. From R&B icons like Luther Vandross, the Isley Brothers, and Usher in the early years, to rap pioneers LL Cool J and Doug E. Fresh, and contemporary artists like Tobe Nwigwe and DJ Khaled, the festival has evolved to embrace different genres and challenge stereotypes. Notable performances include Prince's ethereal show in 2014 and Kendrick Lamar's masterful storytelling in 2015. The festival has also celebrated the legacies of Maze featuring Frankie Beverly, D'Angelo, Maxwell, Tank, Master P, and Nas. [Extracted from the article]
