Abstract
The article focuses on the Steinberger GL Series, a line of minimalist, headless electric guitars first mass-produced in 1984 by Ned Steinberger’s company. These guitars featured innovative designs using composite materials and included advanced elements such as the TransTrem vibrato system, which allows pitch changes while keeping chords in tune, and the Co-x connector system for quick pickup swaps. The GL Series gained recognition for its ergonomic design, unique double ball end strings, and ease of maintenance, influencing guitarists across various genres. Although production of the original composite models ceased by the late 1990s, the design legacy continues through Steinberger’s Spirit line, maintaining its status as an icon of 1980s and 1990s guitar innovation.
