Abstract

This article provides critical reviews of recent keyboard and choral music recordings, focusing primarily on organ and harpsichord performances. Highlights include Peter Van de Velde’s advocacy for Belgian Romantic and symphonic organ music on a historic Stevens organ in Antwerp, and Richard Lester’s authoritative recording of Girolamo Frescobaldi’s early 17th-century Fiori Musicali on a William Drake organ. The article also discusses contemporary interpretations of 20th-century harpsichord concertos by Czech composers, and Philip Moore’s Via Crucis, a modern organ work inspired by Eric Milner-White’s Holy Week reflections, performed on the refurbished Guildford Cathedral organ. Critical assessments address the suitability of instruments and acoustics for the repertoire, as well as performers’ stylistic choices.
