Abstract
This article reviews a two-CD set of François d'Agincourt’s complete harpsichord pieces, performed by harpsichordist Marco Borghetto. D'Agincourt (1684–1758) was a composer of the Louis XV era known for his elegant Rococo suites, comparable to Rameau and the Couperins. Borghetto’s performance on a modern copy of a c.1736 Hemsch harpsichord in the first disc is praised for its quality and expressiveness, particularly in Suite 2. However, the second disc, recorded on a different instrument in Rome, suffers from tuning and tonal issues that detract from the music despite Borghetto’s skill. The review also references other recordings of these suites by Herve Niquet, Rebecca Pechefsky, Stephane Bechy, and Fernando de Luca for comparative context. [Extracted from the article]
