Abstract

The article focuses on the posthumous presentation of the 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award by the International Tuba Euphonium Association (ITEA) to John Kuhn (1882–1962), a celebrated Assiniboine tubist and Sousaphone player. Kuhn, born on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation in Montana, had a distinguished career performing with prominent bands and orchestras, contributed to the development of the Conn "Chief" mouthpiece, and authored a tuba method still in print. The award was presented at ITEC 2025 in Valencia, Spain, to Kuhn's family during a reunion in Chicago, recognizing his significant musical legacy and influence.
