Abstract

This article focuses on Vivek Haria's choral composition *The Imperishable*, which draws on a translated Sanskrit text from the Māndūkya Upanishad and incorporates elements of the Hindustani musical tradition alongside contemporary techniques. Haria, a Cambridge graduate with a background in both music and management studies, emphasizes the collaborative nature of composition, highlighting how live rehearsals reveal nuances beyond digital scores. His work aims to convey a spiritual journey through distinct states of consciousness, offering performers clear guidance to navigate its tonal and expressive challenges. The Marian Consort, a UK-based professional vocal ensemble, will premiere *The Imperishable* as part of a 2024 New Music series promoting emerging composers.
