Abstract
The article focuses on trumpeter and multi-instrumentalist Emma-Jean Thackray’s project "Dear Miles," a live reinterpretation of key tracks from jazz legend Miles Davis’s catalogue. Thackray, a Mercury Prize-nominated artist known for her genre-fluid style and neurodiverse perspective, draws inspiration from Davis’s innovative electric period and his collaborations with Gil Evans, blending jazz with electronic and club influences. The project reflects her personal connection to Davis’s music, which she discovered as a teenager, and showcases her skills as a bandleader and composer. "Dear Miles" serves as a tribute to Davis’s artistic fearlessness and evolving sound, performed ahead of her appearance at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival. [Extracted from the article]
