Abstract
The article focuses on the challenges rural communities in the United States face in accessing equitable and culturally responsive mental health care. It highlights the influence of cultural identities, stigma, and provider shortages on mental health understanding and help-seeking behaviors. Economic instability and environmental changes further exacerbate these issues, necessitating interventions that engage community members and utilize telehealth to improve access and privacy. Efforts to strengthen the rural behavioral health workforce, supported by initiatives from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), aim to increase the number of culturally competent mental health professionals, particularly for children and adolescents.
