Abstract

This article focuses on a New Zealand perioperative nursing chairperson's experience at the 2025 Association of perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) Global Surgical Conference & Expo in Boston. The conference featured presentations on topics such as emotional intelligence in managing bullying, sustainability in perioperative services, surgical smoke safety, AI-powered staffing and instrument counting, and patient advocacy roles. The attendee highlighted the global relevance of challenges like patient safety, workforce wellbeing, and leadership resilience, noting the value of international collaboration. Upon returning to New Zealand, the chairperson expressed a commitment to applying these insights to enhance perioperative nursing practice locally.
