Abstract

This article provides an overview of Crohn's disease and updates on medical and dietary therapies. The authors emphasize the importance of screening for vitamin D deficiency in patients with Crohn's disease, as it can indicate a risk for osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is more common in patients with Crohn's disease due to various factors, including avoidance of calcium-rich dairy foods, impaired calcium absorption, and the use of corticosteroids. The article also highlights the increased risk of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) in patients with Crohn's disease who require antiresorptive therapy for osteoporosis. Good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups are recommended for these patients. [Extracted from the article]
