Abstract
The article focuses on recent research in animal science addressing three main topics: the impact of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) on bovine embryonic development, the effects of maternal supplementation with methionine (MET) and guanidinoacetic acid (GAA) during the periconceptual period on fetal growth, and the implementation of individual animal electronic identification (EID) and genetic testing in Western range sheep flocks. Findings indicate that low concentrations of LPS reduce the ability of cattle oocytes to develop into blastocysts without affecting cell counts. Supplementation with MET during early gestation increased methyl donor availability and enhanced fetal brain and muscle development. Additionally, a field study involving five California sheep producers used EID and the Flock54 genotyping panel, containing 956 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), to improve genetic management, including pedigree assignment and fecundity scoring, across nearly 3,000 animals.
