Abstract
This article investigates the effects of chronic coffee consumption on hematological parameters and liver histology in Wistar rats. Rats administered increasing doses of coffee (100, 200, and 300 mg/kg body weight) over three weeks showed dose-dependent increases in red blood cell count, hemoglobin, and packed cell volume, alongside alterations in immune cell profiles such as increased neutrophils and decreased lymphocytes. Despite positive effects on blood indices and body weight changes, histological examination revealed dose-dependent apoptotic changes in liver tissue, indicating potential hepatotoxicity from prolonged coffee intake. The study concludes that while coffee may enhance certain blood parameters, chronic consumption poses risks to liver health in this animal model.
