Abstract
The article focuses on the regulatory landscape of dietary supplements in the United States, particularly following the enactment of the Dietary Supplement Health & Education Act (DSHEA) in 1994. It discusses how DSHEA established a framework for dietary supplements, categorizing them as food and allowing for less stringent regulation compared to drugs, which has led to significant growth in the industry but also raised safety concerns. The article highlights the need for reform, including proposals for mandatory product listing to enhance transparency and consumer safety, as current regulations are deemed inadequate in addressing the complexities of the modern supplement market. It also contrasts U.S. regulations with those in other countries, such as Canada and the European Union, which have stricter requirements for dietary supplements. [Extracted from the article]
