Abstract
This article focuses on public support for a sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB) tax policy in Taiwan, based on a cross-sectional online survey of 1,617 adults conducted between May 2020 and April 2021. The study found that approximately 60% of respondents supported the introduction of an SSB tax to fund the National Health Insurance program, while 47% believed the tax would effectively reduce SSB consumption. Higher perceived health risks of SSBs and a sense of personal responsibility for the health impacts of SSB consumption were both positively associated with greater support for and perceived effectiveness of the tax. The findings suggest that increasing public awareness of SSB-related health risks and encouraging individual responsibility may enhance support for such health-promoting fiscal policies in Taiwan.
