Nutrigenetics and Nutritional Strategies in Systemic Arterial Hypertension: Evidence From a Scoping Review.

Abstract
This article focuses on the current evidence regarding gene–nutrient interactions in modulating blood pressure (BP) among adults with systemic arterial hypertension (SAH). A scoping review of 12 studies involving 1648 hypertensive adults identified 20 genes and 31 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), with 19 SNPs showing associations with BP variations in response to dietary factors, primarily sodium intake. Notable gene–nutrient interactions include SNPs in KDM1A, EDNRB, ACE, AT1R, MTHFR, and AT2R, among others, which influenced BP responses to interventions such as sodium restriction, calcium intake, riboflavin supplementation, and dietary patterns rich in fruits and vegetables. Despite these findings, the review highlights limited and heterogeneous evidence, with few studies addressing diverse populations or underlying mechanisms, underscoring the need for more comprehensive research to inform personalized nutritional strategies for SAH management.
