Toxicity of Polystyrene Nanoplastics in the Liver and Intestine of Normal and High‐Fat‐Diet Juvenile Zebrafish.

Abstract
This article investigates the toxic effects of polystyrene nanoplastics (NPs) on hepatic lipid metabolism and gut microbiota stability using juvenile zebrafish as a vertebrate model, with a focus on differences between normal diet (ND) and high-fat diet (HFD) conditions to simulate childhood obesity. The study found that NP exposure disrupted liver lipid metabolism and altered gut microbial composition, effects that were exacerbated by HFD, leading to gastrointestinal injury and metabolic disturbances linked to the brain–gut axis. These findings highlight the potential health risks of environmental nanoplastic pollution, especially in the context of obesity, and underscore the importance of reducing plastic use and maintaining a healthy diet to protect metabolic and gut health.
