Abstract
An editorial is presented the contentious term "ultra-processed" and its implications in food science and nutrition. Topics include critiques from food technologists about its misleading application to foods, concerns over consumer confusion and anxiety fueled by nutritionists using the term, and the call for informed debate among food scientists to clarify its scientific basis and implications for public health.
