Abstract

The article focuses on the role of nutrition and lifestyle factors in supporting physical activity and athletic performance, emphasizing the importance of a balanced diet tailored to individual energy and nutrient needs. It highlights clinical cases illustrating common issues such as inadequate carbohydrate intake in endurance athletes and excessive protein focus in strength trainers, underscoring the benefits of dietary variety, adequate hydration, and antioxidant-rich foods. Key principles from the British Dietetic Association include consuming a varied diet, fueling appropriately for exercise intensity, refueling post-exercise, and maintaining hydration. The article also stresses that optimal sports nutrition must be integrated with other lifestyle factors like sleep, stress management, and rest, while considering patients' personal circumstances and the potential need for multidisciplinary support.
