Abstract
This article focuses on the development and current status of oncology pharmacy practice in Nepal, highlighting its evolution from limited clinical involvement to emerging roles in pharmacovigilance, chemotherapy management, and multidisciplinary care. Despite milestones such as the establishment of hospital-based pharmacovigilance centers and integration of clinical pharmacists in select cancer hospitals, oncology pharmacy remains underdeveloped due to limited policy recognition, scarce specialized training programs, workforce shortages, and inconsistent service implementation. The article emphasizes the need for formal inclusion of oncology pharmacists in national cancer control strategies, accredited education and residency programs, dedicated clinical posts, enhanced research efforts, and improved infrastructure to strengthen oncology pharmacy services. It also advocates for regional and global collaborations to support capacity building and sustainable integration, aiming to improve medication safety and patient outcomes amid Nepal’s rising cancer burden.
