Abstract

This article focuses on assessing satisfaction levels with oncology pharmacy services at Benjamin Mkapa Hospital (BMH) in Tanzania among cancer patients and healthcare staff closely involved with the oncology pharmacy unit. Conducted as a qualitative cross-sectional study from July to August 2022, it surveyed 62 cancer patients and 53 staff members using questionnaires to evaluate service quality, teamwork, and professional competence. Results showed high satisfaction rates, with approximately 86% of patients satisfied with overall care and 85–92% of staff expressing satisfaction with the unit’s mission, teamwork, and competencies. The study highlights the importance of pharmacist presence during patient visits, patient-centred approaches, and workflow optimization to enhance therapeutic alliances and reduce turnaround times, while noting limitations such as a modest sample size and single-centre design that may affect generalizability.
