Abstract

This article focuses on a study conducted in Tsu, Japan, investigating auditory change detection in the brain, particularly its neural oscillations and evoked potentials, which are relevant to psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia. Researchers from Mie University Graduate School of Medicine examined the temporal dynamics of auditory-evoked low gamma oscillations and evoked potentials in healthy adults using a paired-pulse sound paradigm and electroencephalographic recordings. The study found distinct neural responses to abrupt sound pressure changes, highlighting differences in phase coherence and suppression effects, and suggested that this neurophysiological approach could enhance understanding of neural mechanisms underlying psychiatric conditions.
