Abstract
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau faced a significant political setback as his Liberal Party lost a special election in a Montreal district that was previously considered a stronghold for him. This defeat, along with a previous loss in Toronto, puts pressure on Trudeau to step aside before the next election, scheduled for October 2025. The recent losses in Canada's two largest cities indicate trouble for Trudeau, whose support is concentrated in urban areas. The special election was won by Louis-Philippe Sauve of the Bloc Quebecois, a party that advocates for Quebec's interests. Despite these setbacks, Trudeau has not shown any intention of resigning and maintains support within his caucus. [Extracted from the article]
