Abstract
The article focuses on the controversy surrounding Indonesia's decision to designate former president Suharto as a national hero despite his authoritarian and violent legacy. Topics include the state-controlled process of hero-making and its political history, Suharto's rise to power and the abuses committed under the New Order regime, and the modern resurgence of "Suharto nostalgia" shaped by collective memory, youth perceptions, and the political climate under President Prabowo.
