Abstract
A recent study conducted at the Minnesota Regional Sleep Disorders Center focused on sleep-related dissociative disorder (SRDD), a psychiatric parasomnia that mimics sleepwalking. The study reported two cases of SRDD in female patients with histories of abuse. The hallmark of SRDD is sustained wakefulness during dissociative episodes, which occur during wake-sleep transitions or after awakenings from light non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep or rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. Both patients also experienced "sleep phobia" and recurrent episodes of nocturnal eating. The study reinforces previous findings on SRDD and highlights additional factors such as nocturnal eating behaviors and triggering factors. [Extracted from the article]
