Abstract

The article examines politician Zohran Mamdani's rise to the New York mayoralty, portraying him as a product of a transformed electorate, Democratic Socialist organizing and generational shifts that have reshaped city politics and weakened traditional Democratic coalitions. Topics include the role of the Democratic Socialists of America, demographic and ideological changes in New York's electorate and controversies surrounding policing, housing policy and Mamdani's stance on Israel.
