Abstract
The article focuses on the cybersecurity challenges posed by deepfakes—synthetically generated media created using advanced artificial intelligence that convincingly mimics real faces, voices, and behaviors. Initially research tools, deepfakes have evolved into powerful instruments for disinformation campaigns, affecting geopolitical and economic stability by spreading manipulated content rapidly via social media. This technology threatens democratic processes by distorting voter perceptions and undermining trust in institutions, marking a shift in cyberwarfare from targeting infrastructure to exploiting human cognitive vulnerabilities. Addressing these threats requires a multifaceted approach involving international cooperation, legal frameworks, technological advances in media authentication, and improved digital literacy to preserve information integrity and social cohesion.
