Abstract

Billionaires like Tilman Fertitta and the heirs of the Las Vegas Sands Corp. are pushing for the legalization of Las Vegas-style casino resorts in Texas. Despite opposition from Christian conservatives and concerns about rising crime and gambling addiction, advocates argue that casinos would bring job growth and increase tourist dollars. Texas currently has three casinos operated by Indian tribes, but they are limited in their offerings. While progress has been made, any amendment to legalize casinos would need to be approved by both houses of the state legislature and won't be on the ballot until 2025. [Extracted from the article]
