Abstract

This article investigates whether supporters of populist radical-right parties (PRRPs) endorse genetic essentialism—the belief that social differences primarily reflect genetic makeup—by analyzing survey data from Sweden and Norway. It finds a positive association between genetic essentialism and support for the Sweden Democrats (SD) and the Progress Party (FrP), with a stronger and curvilinear effect observed in Sweden. The research raises concerns about minority rights, as genetic essentialism correlates with support for eugenic policies, and discusses the responsibility of behavioral geneticists to prevent misuse of their work. These findings contribute to understanding the psychological and ideological profiles linked to PRRP support and highlight implications for social and political dynamics in Nordic countries.
