Abstract

The article focuses on recent developments in Libya involving human rights concerns and military actions. The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has called for an urgent investigation into online footage allegedly showing torture and abuse of detainees at the Gernada detention facility in eastern Libya, which is controlled by forces loyal to Khalifa Haftar. UNSMIL noted that the footage, while unverified, aligns with known patterns of human rights violations in Libyan detention centers and involves both Libyan and foreign nationals. Separately, Libya's UN-recognized authorities conducted air strikes targeting drug trafficking and fuel smuggling sites near the city of Zawiya, following clashes between armed groups involved in smuggling and human trafficking.
