Abstract
This study investigates the relationships among metacognition, personality traits, and dispositional resilience in a sample of 103 firefighters from Kerala, India. Metacognition, defined as the awareness and regulation of one’s own cognitive processes, was found to positively predict dispositional resilience—a psychological hardiness trait—and was also positively associated with the personality trait conscientiousness. Regression analyses indicated that metacognition and conscientiousness together explained approximately 23% of the variance in dispositional resilience among firefighters. The findings suggest that enhancing metacognitive skills and conscientiousness may contribute to greater resilience in this high-stress profession, highlighting the potential value of targeted mental health interventions to support firefighters’ psychological well-being.
