Abstract
Algeria's equivocal status as a kind of "seventh member state" formally ended with a 1976 treaty, highlighting that Algeria's ties with France and the EEC endured well beyond 1962. In response to this, just five days later, French officials added a new demand to the ongoing EEC treaty negotiations: that Algeria should be explicitly named in the Treaty of Rome as being a part of the EEC. Megan Brown's I The Seventh Member State i makes a bold and exciting contribution to our understanding of contemporary France, decolonization and European integration. [Extracted from the article]
