Abstract
The article focuses on the creation of a detailed scale model of a 1930s-era wooden longboat from Pitcairn Island, highlighting its historical and cultural significance. The modeler researched the island’s maritime heritage, including its connection to the Bounty mutiny and the Seventh-day Adventist mission, and incorporated authentic materials such as Miro wood sourced directly from Pitcairn. The longboats were essential for ferrying goods and people between the island and visiting ships due to the island’s treacherous reefs. The completed model, featuring handcrafted figures and rigging based on archival photographs and a Pitcairn postage stamp, was ultimately donated to the Pitcairn Islands Study Center at Pacific Union College to be preserved within its specialized research collection.
