Abstract
The twelve chapters are prefaced by Russell Jeung's introductory essay, which situates the emergence of ethnic studies in the global history of student activism and social justice movements of the 1960s and 1970s. Harvey Dong, another student activist at Berkeley, describes personal loss when his wife was shot and paralyzed in an Anti-Asian hate crime in New York City, which necessitated a re-envisioning of their career goals.
