Abstract

This article discusses the importance of creating an organizational culture that is more inclusive for Black employees. The author highlights how organizational culture can either support or alienate Black workers, and emphasizes the role of both structural and interpersonal factors in determining their success. The article provides examples of companies with cultures that encourage collaboration and recognize the distinct experiences of Black workers, and discusses the benefits of open discussions about race and racism in the workplace. The author suggests that leaders can set the tone for a more inclusive culture by prioritizing racial diversity and creating opportunities for cross-group connections, while employees can support these efforts and mentor Black colleagues. Overall, the article argues that it is possible to create a culture that includes rather than excludes Black workers, but it requires effort from both leaders and employees.
