Abstract
The far-left Basque separatist party, Bildu, achieved its best-ever result in the legislative elections of the affluent northern Spanish region. Despite its historic ties to the now-defunct ETA terrorist group and its ambiguity over denouncing Basque terrorism, Bildu won six more seats than in the previous election. However, neither Bildu nor the governing conservative-nationalist PNV secured a majority, highlighting the political fragmentation in Spain. The center-right and pro-business PNV are likely to retain power with the support of the Socialists, who are now in the position of kingmaker. [Extracted from the article]
