Abstract

The article explores the evolution of Charles Austin Beard's perspective on American politics and the Progressive movement. Topics include Beard's initial economic analysis of the Progressive movement and his eventual shift in views after World War I, his complex relationship with Robert M. La Follette and their differing opinions on U.S. intervention in the war, and the contrast between Beard's later acknowledgment of La Follette's insights.
