Abstract

The article reviews the documentary *Transactions* (2022) by Rumbi Katedza, which explores the impact of Zimbabwe’s economic crisis on migration and family disintegration through the story of the Mlilo family scattered across Zimbabwe, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. The film highlights how financial remittances have become central to family survival, with migrants facing pressures to support relatives despite their own struggles, including issues related to mental health, LGBTQIA rights, and social stigma. By portraying the transactional nature of family relationships shaped by economic necessity, *Transactions* situates Zimbabwe’s experience within broader African migration patterns driven by socio-economic instability. The documentary also underscores the urgent need for economic reforms across the continent.
