Abstract

The article discusses the disputed presidential election in Venezuela, where the National Electoral Council declared Nicolás Maduro as the winner despite not providing the actual results. The opposition candidate, Edmundo González Urrutia, claimed victory with a two-thirds majority based on receipts printed by Venezuela's electronic voting machines. Venezuela's democracy has been in crisis, with the country sliding into autocracy under President Hugo Chávez and facing economic challenges under Maduro. The opposition's plan has garnered support from the US and the EU, while Maduro's government claims foreign intervention and cracks down on protests. The outcome in Venezuela remains uncertain, but the aftermath of the election has been a long time in the making. [Extracted from the article]
