Abstract

The article focuses on the impact of Comic Relief, a charity initiative co-founded by British screenwriter Richard Curtis, which uses comedy to raise funds for poverty alleviation and social justice. Inspired by the famine in Ethiopia during the 1980s, Curtis, along with comedian Lenny Henry, launched Comic Relief, which has since raised over $2 billion for various charitable projects, benefiting more than 100 million people worldwide. The U.S. branch of the organization has contributed over $436 million. In recognition of their efforts, Curtis and Henry received the Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy Catalyst Award during Comic Relief's 40th anniversary. [Extracted from the article]
