Abstract
The article focuses on identifying design requirements for a Visual Analytic System (VAS) aimed at information mapping of online debates on COVID-19 vaccines, based on the perspectives of Library and Information Science/Technology (LIS/LIT) students in Nigerian universities. Using a quantitative survey of 336 final-year undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students, the study found essential system features to include a user-friendly interface, efficient data processing, compatibility with multiple data formats, interactive visualization options, scalability, social media integration, feedback analysis, and geospatial segmentation. The research highlights the importance of user-centered design tailored to the socio-technical context of developing countries and suggests that such systems can support sensemaking and misinformation management in dynamic online health debates. Practical implications are offered for system developers, LIS professionals, and policymakers, with recommendations for future work on prototype development and usability testing.
