Abstract

New laws implemented by the Taliban in Afghanistan, which include restrictions on women speaking or showing their faces in public, have received global condemnation. These laws, published in the official gazette of Afghanistan, require women to cover their faces and bodies and prohibit them from using their voices in public or looking directly at unrelated men. The United Nations and human rights organizations have criticized the laws as being based on extreme interpretations of Islamic Sharia. The restrictions on women's rights could also have negative economic consequences for Afghanistan. [Extracted from the article]
