Abstract

The Scottish election results from the 2024 Westminster election were yet another contest defined by major change in constituencies, individuals and party performance. After a long period of dominance by Labour in Scotland, the aftermath of the 2014 independence referendum witnessed substantial change and volatility at each of the subsequent four UK elections. While Labour's re‐emergence as Scotland's dominant party at Westminster in 2024 and the political geographies underpinning it echo patterns pre‐2014, the dynamics of Scottish politics are still shaped for the foreseeable future by competition between Labour and the SNP, anti‐incumbency and the question of Scottish independence.
