Abstract

The article examines the political landscape in Spain, focusing on the strategies employed by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) to maintain power amid challenges from right-wing parties. Following a snap election in July 2023, Sánchez successfully renewed his coalition government despite the PSOE's narrow seat count in parliament. The article highlights the unique aspects of Spain's political environment, such as lower Euroscepticism and anti-immigration sentiment, which have influenced voter behavior and party dynamics. It also discusses Sánchez's pragmatic approach to governance, including his ability to negotiate with various parties and address economic issues, while cautioning that his success may not provide direct lessons for left-wing parties in other countries due to Spain's specific circumstances.
