Abstract

This article examines the relationship between Christian religious affiliation, church attendance, and self-reported sexual behaviors—specifically masturbation and oral sex—among Canadian adults in the context of declining Christian influence ("dechristianization"). Using data from a representative survey of 2,126 Canadians, the study finds that Catholics and mainline Protestants do not significantly differ from non-religious individuals in the recency of these sexual activities. In contrast, those affiliated with Evangelical Christian churches report significantly less recent engagement in masturbation and oral sex, suggesting greater adherence to traditional sexual morality within this group. The findings highlight ongoing variations in sexual behavior linked to religious affiliation amid broader social shifts toward more liberal sexual norms in Canada.
