Abstract
The article focuses on the podcast series "canadaLANDBACK," which examines the modern landback movement and the historical injustices faced by the Wiiwkwedong Anishinaabek at Kettle and Stony Point First Nation in southwestern Ontario. It highlights the seizure of Indigenous lands by Canada, including the appropriation of reserve land during World War II, and the 1995 police raid that resulted in the death of Dudley George. The podcast emphasizes the importance of Indigenous oral history—distinct from ordinary personal memory—in reconstructing accurate accounts of these events, especially where official records and media reports were misleading or incomplete. By combining oral histories with documents such as court records and photographs, the series aims to correct the public record and deepen understanding of the ongoing impact of land dispossession.
