Abstract
The article focuses on the urgent need to transition away from fossil fuels to combat climate change, particularly in light of the upcoming COP28 climate summit. It highlights that fossil fuels account for over 75% of global emissions and that major fossil-fuel-producing countries are on track to exceed climate goals set in the Paris Agreement. The article debunks three myths perpetuated by the fossil fuel industry: that fossil fuels are essential for energy security, that they are necessary to meet growing energy demand, and that carbon-capture technology will render fossil fuels emission-free. It calls for decisive political action, particularly from wealthier nations, to halt new fossil fuel projects, implement stronger regulations, and support developing countries in their transition to renewable energy.
